For all your beauty advice…
Good morning, and Happy Monday! I hope it was a great weekend. Thanks for the great questions this week, I look forward to them! Read on about stained nails, growing in eyebrows, and marker staining blonde hair.
Dear Brooke, I love to play around with trendy nail polish colors! Dark blue, dark green, nail art, you name it, I’m having fun with it! I have noticed lately that when I take my polish off, my nails are stained a dark yellow/light red color. To hide it, I apply more polish, but I’m thinking that’s contributing to the problem. Help! Megan R.
Dear Megan, You’ve definitely got the source of the problem right. What’s happening is, the dark nail polish colors you are using are leaving pigment behind and staining your natural nail. It’s very common if you wear dark colors frequently. Make sure you are wearing a base coat to protect your nail, and try to give your nails some breathing time between manicures. To treat those dark spots on your nail, use some lemon juice to lighten them up. Sometimes polish remover will lighten the spots as well.
Dear Brooke, I’m in the process of growing out my eyebrows. I’ve been tweezing them for many years! I’m afraid that they won’t regrow. What do you suggest to speed the process of growing them back? Also, how can I improve what they look like while they’re growing? Please help! Valerie R.
Dear Valerie, While you’re waiting for your brows to grow back, use an eyebrow pencil to color in where your brows are growing back. If you haven’t used an eyebrow pencil before, don’t worry. Find a shade that matches your brows and using light, feathery strokes, fill in the hairless spots on your brows. Also, those products you can get at Sephora, Ulta, anywhere really, that grow lashes will also work on brows to help them come in faster. I have heard many success stories from people trying to get thicker eyebrows, and they did by using a lash-growth product. Some of them can be expensive though, so it may just be worth the wait. Hope that helps!
Dear Brooke, My daughter and her friend decided to color their blonde hair with marker and now there’s a large green streak in her hair. It doesn’t seem to be washing out. Is she stuck with this until it grows out? Kristine K.
Dear Kristine, Well, she’s probably not stuck with it until it grows out, but it may take a while for the color to fade. Blonde hair can stain, so it sounds like the marker stained her hair since the color is still hanging on. Have her shampoo with a clarifying shampoo and do some deep conditioning treatments to break down the pigment. It may take some patience on your part, because it’s a process that could take some time. If she is fine with the way it looks, and you can tolerate it until it goes away, then let her decide if she wants to take the time to try to get rid of it, or to rock a green streak for a while!
